SPAM fighting tips

(In Order of Importance)

1. Replace any clear-text references to your email address on internet web sites with encoded versions. We have provided a tool for encoding your email address.

2. Never, never ask to be removed or unsubscribed from any spam list. You are simply confirming that a person is receiving the spam by doing so

3. Do not use your actual email address when posting to internet newsgroups and do not give your email address to any institution that you do not expect to receive email from.

4. If possible use a mail server that makes use of Realtime Blackhole Lists (RBL) these lists are self maintaining and for the most part relatively accurate. We recommend the following databases:

5. Make use of one of the many good anti-spam utilities available for your PC.
    If possible use a product that employs Bayesian filtering like Popfile. (Bayesian filtering is a highly accurate probability based filtering system)
6. Use an email client that offers the user the option of not downloading graphics stored in email. Outlook 2003 offers this option.
